After Surgery
Home care, dressing and follow-up guidance after a procedure.
Good aftercare protects the result of your surgery and helps you heal smoothly. Follow the specific instructions given to you, and use this as a general guide.
Caring for the wound
- Keep the dressing clean and dry, and change it exactly as advised.
- Do not get the wound wet unless you've been told it's safe.
- Watch for increasing redness, swelling, discharge or pain and report it early.
Activity and offloading
- Use any prescribed offloading footwear, cast or aids as directed.
- Keep weight off the operated foot as instructed.
- Rest and elevate the foot to reduce swelling.
Follow-up
Attend every follow-up appointment so we can check healing and adjust your care. Take your medicines and keep your blood sugar controlled — it directly affects how well you heal.
